These academic programs are designed to prepare graduates for entry-level positions with industry, labor organizations or government, or to enhance and established career. As graduates advance to roles of substantial responsibility they are required to understand the conduct of research and interpretation of data: therefore, our MS program includes a research thesis.
These programs are components of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Education and Research Center (ERC) at the University of Cincinnati. The MS program in Industrial Hygiene has been accredited by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Industrial Hygiene.

Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental and Industrial Hygiene
Program SummaryAll students learn to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and design programs and systems to control exposures in the environmental or occupational setting that are causing or may be expected to result in adverse human health effects. Academic study at the Ph.D. levels is available in two majors: Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Ergonomics, with additional specialty concentration such as Biomonitoring. The faculty maintain nationally and internationally recognized research programs; specific programs focus on the relation between ambient exposures and internal markers of effect, relation between exposure and such chronic outcomes as silicosis, lung cancer, ergonomic and biomechanical injury, asthma and neuromuscular response; identification of sources of toxins such as lead in the environment. Doctoral study is supported by a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Education and Research training grant, University and other resources.
