Course of Study and Special Interest

MS Students will be trained in major areas of modern Pharmacology, including the sub-discipline of Safety Pharmacology through formal courses, seminars, and training in experimental methods in pharmacology.

Specialization in Safety Pharmacology will require all students to take courses in Pharmaceutical Principles and Receptors, Systems Pharmacology, Drug Discovery and Development, Principles of Safety Pharmacology, Advanced Safety Pharmacology, Pre-clinical Good Laboratory Practice, Seminar in Pharmacology and Experimental Methods in Pharmacology.

Faculty expertise offers students a wide array of experimental research methods, models and techniques in cardiovascular pharmacology, neuropharmacology; immunopharmacology, cancer pharmacology, environmental toxicology, translational pharmacology, protein chemistry and structural biology, and gene and stem cell therapies.

Completion of the MS degree will require satisfactory completion of a minimum of 30 semester credit hours of required and elective graduate level courses, typically completed in about ten months of full-time study. Students admitted to this program will only need to register for 2 semesters as a full-time student. Career Development and Placement of Graduates

Career development and networking opportunities for students will be facilitated by participation in job fairs and interactions with invited speakers from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and contract research organizations. Job openings and contact information of prospective employers will be provided to students as they become available. Assistance in effective resume preparation and interview skills will be provided.
