Our multiple clinical tracks and non-clinical pathways have allowed for more scholarly opportunities than ever for our Med-Peds residents. They participate in wide-ranging scholarly initiatives relating to clinical research, advocacy and social justice,
global health, medical education, and quality improvement. Our residents have received multiple grants relating to such work, traveling to national conferences to present their work. We are so proud of them!
In both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, there is strong faculty mentorship for resident-driven initiatives to accomplish your scholarly goals. Residents with specific research interests are connected with faculty members who are participating in research in their field
of interest. Residents receive free statistical support through the Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training. Other specific opportunities for the scholarship include
All MEP residents complete a scholarly project that can be submitted as a manuscript for publication, an abstract for poster or oral presentation, or a workshop at regional or national meetings. The MEP leadership team has expertise in educational research, curriculum development, and scholarly writing, and will help residents cultivate their ideas into scholarly products. Pathway residents can also take the Medical Education Pathway electives, which include protected time for project work.
Both IM and Peds have research pathways that Med-Peds residents can join to receive mentorship on grant funding, participate in journal clubs, and be connected with faculty members who are participating in research in their field of interest.
Med-Peds residents can apply for this NIH sponsored program that extends residency by one year to provide protected time for research. This program provides access to dozens of NIH funded laboratories, support from an active mentorship team, and research-specific professional development opportunities, including personalized career mentoring. Both the acute care and primary care tracks help participating residents identify meaningful scholarly projects relevant to their future careers and establish faculty or fellow mentors.
This CCHMC-based pathway pairs residents with global health trained mentors to complete internationally-focused research projects and to participate in quarterly GREAT (Global Research, Education, Advocacy and Training) meetings. Med-Peds residents can also apply for substantial global health research funding through the Global Research Opportunities Worldwide (GROW) award (PDF).
Med-Peds residents have the opportunity to present their scholarly work at myriad regional and national conferences. Each resident receives funding annually from the Office of Graduate Medical Education to support registration and travel to share their amazing work with the broader scholarly community.
