Most program applications are made through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), but some programs accept applications directly, or through the San Francisco Match.
Check individual residency and fellowship programs for specific application guidelines and requirements for eligibility.
All residents and clinical fellows must provide documentation that they have passed USMLE Step 1, USMLE Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) and USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) or the COMLEX equivalent. Any resident or clinical fellow accepted into a PGY– 4 or above must provide documentation that they have passed Step 1, Step 2 CK and CS and Step 3 prior to starting any residency or clinical fellowship training program.
All offers are contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and hiring processes prior to the start date.
Credentialing requirements include, but are not limited to, obtaining appropriate licensure to practice medicine in the State of Ohio, verification of medical school graduation and any previous residency training, verification of any previous medical licenses and the passing of a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
Applicants who are not US citizens must have an active, valid visa that allows for clinical training or must provide evidence of permanent US immigrant status. The visa must be active during the entire period of the residency/fellowship.
Graduates of foreign medical schools, both US citizens and foreign nationals, must have a current and valid ECFMG certification.
All IMG’s must enter training with a J-1 clinical visa unless they are US citizens or hold a valid US Resident Alien card and must have a valid IAP-66 in order to remain in training.
The UC College of Medicine/University of Cincinnati Medical Center training programs participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), as well as another matching programs for Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, and Urology.
The NRMP is is a private, not-for-profit corporation established in 1952 to provide a uniform date of appointment to positions in graduate medical education in the United States. Most fellowship programs participate in the NRMP Match as well.
It is important to note that the NRMP is not an application service or a job placement service. Applicants must apply directly to residency programs through their medical college in addition to registering for the Match.
