Academic Performance

Academic Expectations (Policies and Performance Standards)

The purpose of these expectations is to assist you in your pursuit of excellence through the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Connections Dual Admissions Program, a non-accelerated Baccalaureate/Medical Degree (BS/MD) program. It is our goal to help you reach your highest potential.

Academic Expectations Include:
  • You are expected to remain enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Cincinnati full-time and graduate from UC.

  • Satisfactorily fulfill baccalaureate graduation requirements for your majors and minors and the University Honors Program.

  • Earn a minimum undergraduate cumulativegrade point average in all coursework before the beginning of the Fall of your final semester.

  • Earn a minimum undergraduate grade point average in all Biological science, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics (BCPM) coursework.

  • Students must earn grades of "B" (3.00 on a 4.00 system) or better in all courses.

    • Receiving a grade lower than a “B” (B- and lower in a letter-graded course or “F” in a Pass/Fail course) will place the student’s participation in the program in jeopardy and should be reported to the Director of the Connections Program within 10 days of the posting of final grades.

    • A grade of "D" or "F" in a BCPM course may be grounds for a dismissal from the Connections Program and shall be sufficient grounds for denial of promotion.

  • Earn a minimum score on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).

  • Expected to take advantage of opportunities that will assist in developing the following skills: problem-solving ability; coping skills; ability to make mature, sound, and ethical judgments; ability to communicate effectively; and interpersonal skills.

  • Must actively participate in opportunities (post high school) that provide insight into helping others and the medical profession to aide development and commitment to your professional goal.

  • Expected to attend Connections-sponsored service and social events.

  • Please contact us if you would like a copy of your signed Policies and Performance Standards

If your plans for graduation deviate from this timeline, you must:
  1. meet with the Director of the Connections Program
  2. earn the required MCAT score
  3. submit a written appeal to the Dean of Admissions at the UC College of Medicine at least 12 months prior to your proposed graduation date.
