Work Hours/Call Frequency

Residents on diagnostic rotations typically work from 8am to 5pm. Integrated IR residents share diagnostic call with Diagnostic Radiology residents. During the IR rotation, Integrated IR residents take IR call with the DR resident on rotation and independent IR residents.

Our program ensures that residents are adequately supported by in-house attendings and reading room assistants during evening and weekend call hours. The frequency of home call is reasonable, allowing residents to maintain a good work-life balance. Our commitment to resident wellness is reflected in our call policies and dedication to providing adequate support for our residents.

  • Evening weekday call from 5-9 PM is covered by three residents, with one covering neuro and two covering body imaging. In-house attending Neuroradiologists and Body Faculty are present for final sign-off of cases. Reading room assistants are available during these call hours to support residents in answering phones and communicating with physicians to relay urgent findings. On weekends, two residents cover Body Imaging from 8 AM to 5 PM.
  • IR Call is shared between Integrated IR residents, independent IR residents, and rotating DR residents during their IR blocks. This is done via home call with a dedicated IR cellphone. The frequency of home call is one in four to five nights.
  • During the 4-week block at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, residents are required to cover approximately six after-hours call shifts with onsite Pediatric Faculty and Fellows available to review studies.
