About the Program

We'd like to welcome you to the University of Cincinnati's PM&R residency program video!

On behalf of the faculty and staff of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Cincinnati, I would like to thank you for your interest in our residency training program. I hope that you will take a few minutes to read about our program and understand why we are so proud of it.

The following is a list of why I hope you will consider continuing your medical education at the University of Cincinnati:

The Residency Training Program

• Close daily contact between residents and faculty
• Close proximity of training sites (main clinic location, hospital campus, and inpatient rehabilitation hospital within 3 miles of each other)
• Strong social network of residents and a supportive family-like atmosphere
• A weekly resident clinic of interest for PGY2s which allows the residents to gain additional/early exposure in the areas of pm7r that are of most interest to them
• A weekly resident continuity clinic where PGY3 & PGY4 residents can follow and manage their own patients.  This allows for continuity of care as residents can frequently follow their own discharges from the consult service and the inpatient rehabilitation hospital
• Inpatient rehabilitation training at a CARF-accredited Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (TriHealth Rehabilitation Hospital)
• Longitudinal exposure to a rehabilitation consultation service at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC), a quaternary care center which houses a Level 1 Trauma Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center that serves as the National Coordinating Center for NIH StrokeNet. This gives our residents access to a diversity of patient presentations and populations beginning in the PGY1 year 
• Three months of electives, which allows the residents to develop enhanced expertise in the areas of PM&R that are of most interest to them
• A strong didactic component with a new emphasis on integrating clinical and basic neurosciences
• Front-loaded call system with no in house call after the PGY1 year
• A preliminary year in internal medicine at the University of Cincinnati with 6 months of rehabilitation-related electives and limited in house call
• Competitive benefits from the GME office including an annual stipend for professional development (between $1500-$2500 per PGY-year), scholarly travel funds, and a mobile device stipend
• Plentiful opportunities to develop skills as an educator teaching medical students on their required neurology-PM&R rotation

The PM&R Division

• Faculty with a wide range of professional interests and expertise who enjoy mentoring and teaching residents Multiple fellowship trained faculty in multiple subspecialities provide our residents' didactic and clinical exposure
• Active participation in the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute, encompassing first-class clinical facilities, internationally renowned physicians and scientists with expertise in all neuroscience specialties and nationally recognized education and research programs.  This is our main outpatient clinical site
• The largest Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation and Pediatric Rehabilitation training program in the nation primarily housed at Cincinnati Children's Hospital
• An active research program in both adult and pediatric rehabilitation with nearly 10 million dollars in external research funding
