Neuroradiology

The University of Cincinnati Section of Neuroradiology consists of fellowship trained faculty dedicated to the practice of neurologic imaging and minimally invasive spinal procedures.  Our section works in close collaboration with subspecialized colleagues in neurology, neurosurgery, otolaryngology and emergency medicine, as well as community physicians in the care of patients with diseases of the brain, spine, neck, face and orbits.

We strive to be on the cutting edge of neuroradiologic imaging by using the most current protocols and newest techniques to provide accurate diagnosis and care to patients with some of the region’s most challenging neurologic diseases.  Our department is a tertiary referral center for complex neoplastic, vascular, spinal and functional disorders.

Clinical Subspecialized Exams

Division Highlights

Advanced Imaging Techniques

UC is the region’s leader in neuroscience research and care.  The Neuroradiology division provides a full arsenal of advanced imaging techniques which can aide in the diagnosis and treatment of complex neurologic disorders. These include:

  • fMRI/DTI: MR techniques which map out brain activity to help direct surgery and other therapies
  • MR Spectroscopy/perfusion: MR techniques which assess metabolites and blood supply in normal brain and abnormal lesions to help determine a diagnosis as well as to assess the effect of treatment
  • Brain volumetrics: Special post processing tools can provide detailed information about brain volume which can give insight into many chronic neurologic diseases

Multidisciplinary Conferences

  • Our division strongly believes in a team approach to patient care, and participates in seven weekly multidisciplinary conferences which include: stroke, neurocritical care, head and neck, neuro-oncology, vascular and epilepsy.  During these conferences experts in the clinical and surgical management of specific disorders as well as radiation-oncology and radiology discuss complex cases to determine the best treatment options for an individual.

Comprehensive Stroke Center

  • UC is certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, one of a few hospitals across the country with the ability to treat the most complex stroke cases. For 2022-2023 our center received high-performing ratings for superior stroke care from the U.S. News and World Best Hospitals Report.  Neuroradiology is a key member of the stroke team providing rapid imaging and diagnosis to direct intervention and therapy.
