Medical School Tuition

Tuition and fees for medical students are established by the University of Cincinnati's Board of Trustees.  Medical students pay for ten (10) semesters of tuition during the four years of the standard academic program (fall and spring each year plus two summer semesters at the start of each of the M3 and M4 years).

Students are assessed tuition based on their state of residency as determined by the university. Under certain conditions, non-residents can reclassify for in-state Ohio resident tuition.  Options are also available for residents of Kentucky and Indiana to afford their medical education at a rate near the in-state amount as well.  Information pertaining to all of the university's residency options for Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana are available on UC's Registrar website.

Tuition:

OHIO RESIDENTS:  Full-time tuition & fees for the 2023-24 year are $17,806 per semester. The annual total for first-year MD students is $35,612*.

NON-OHIO RESIDENTS:  Full-time tuition & fees for the 2023-24 year are $27,235 per semester. The annual total for first-year MD students is $54,470*. (This does not apply to students who may qualify for reduced tuition under the Kentucky or Indiana Metro Rates - see below).

* Please note these values may differ from the prior year depending on various factors, and they do not include summer term rates which are not assessed to first-year students.

Students are billed for additional fees dependent upon their class year (first, second, etc.).  To see a breakdown of all billed charges as well as estimated living expenses click here

OHIO RESIDENCY UNDER “FOREVER BUCKEYE”

Ohio high school graduates who have left Ohio but who return to enroll in an Ohio public institution of higher education can receive in-state tuition under the Forever Buckeye program. Further information is available on UC's Registrar website (see provision "C8").   Ohio residents who leave Ohio to attend undergraduate college in another state should submit the Ohio Residency Application even if they return to Ohio immediately after graduation.

OHIO RESIDENCY FOR STUDENTS WITH A BACCALAUREATE DEGREE FROM OHIO

Medical students who previously earned a baccalaureate degree (i.e. bachelor's degree) from an Ohio institution of higher learning (public or private) can also receive in-state tuition immediately upon their matriculation into medical school.  Further information and details on applying are available on UC's Registrar website (see provision "C11").

KENTUCKY METROPOLITAN RATE

Residents of Kentucky are eligible for the Kentucky Metropolitan Rate equal to Ohio in-state tuition plus $300 per semester. The Kentucky Metropolitan Rate Application must be completed and returned to the University of Cincinnati Office of the Registrar before the first day of the semester (this deadline is strictly enforced by their office). Further information is available on UC's Registrar website.

INDIANA METROPOLITAN RATE

Residents of Indiana may be eligible for the Indiana Metropolitan Rate, under which they are charged in-state Ohio resident tuition plus a $300 per semester surcharge.  Students must be a dependent of an Indiana resident (as evidenced by a parent/legal guardian's federal income tax return for the most recent tax year listing the student as a dependent).  Applications and supporting documents must be submitted to the University of Cincinnati Office of the Registrar before the first day of the semester (this deadline is strictly enforced by their office).  Certain restrictions may apply, and further information is available on UC's Registrar website.
