Message from ophthalmology residency program director
Welcome to the website of the Ophthalmology Residency Program of the
University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Our residency program exists to produce superb ophthalmologists who are
capable of either immediately practicing comprehensive ophthalmology or
pursuing subspecialty training. Over the past 10 years, about half of our
graduates have completed fellowships in a variety of subspecialties
including pediatric ophthalmology, refractive surgery, retina-vitreous,
glaucoma, and oculoplastics. Our other graduates have gone directly into
productive comprehensive ophthalmology practices.
Our comprehensive curriculum is made possible by our outstanding,
dedicated faculty. All subspecialties within ophthalmology are represented
by at least one faculty member. More importantly, the resident learns
directly from the attending, usually by "one-on-one" interaction.
Equally important is the love for teaching demonstrated by the faculty, many
of whom volunteer to teach subspecialty courses to other ophthalmologists at
the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting each year.
We are looking for intelligent, motivated and enthusiastic individuals
who wish to make ophthalmology their passion and life's work. If you are an
individual of this type, we invite you to submit your application for one of
our residency positions.
Karl C. Golnik, M.D.
