ResearchThere are multiple research opportunities available at both University and Children's Hospitals. Active research grants and ongoing clinical trials include studies in radiation oncology, ultrasound diagnosis and therapy, CT and magnetic resonance imaging. For a comprehensive listing of the Radiology Department's Active Research Grants and Contracts, please visit the Research Grants page. Researchers in the ultrasound laboratory are investigating bioeffects of diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound, acoustic cavitation and new diagnostic imaging techniques for the early detection of vascular disease. The Imaging Research Center is an interdisciplinary research laboratory conducting medical imaging studies related to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in children and young adults, and is operated by the Children's Hospital Research Foundation and the Children's Hospital Radiology Department.
The Interventional Radiology Section at University Hospital is a participating site in the National Uterine fibroid Registry. We are involved in the multicenter "BRAVO" (Beta Radiation for Treatment of Arterial-Venous Graft Outflow) and "Cutting Edge (Cutting Balloon-Hemodialysis Access Management Clinical Investigation) trials.
One of U.C. Radiology's most productive research areas is Breast Imaging. Under the direction of Mary Mahoney, MD, Breast Imaging research has grown substantially over the past two years. The most notable activity is participation in the American College of Radiology Imaging Network, which generated over $200,000 in direct support. Following is a list of current projects in Breast Imaging.
