Ralph Shipley is new Cardiothoracic Imaging Section Chief

11-3-09

Dr. Ralph Shipley, a senior and highly respected member of the section of Cardiothoracic Imaging, has been named Chief of the Section.  He will carry on the collaborative relationship with the University Hospital established by the outgoing Section Chief, Dr. Cris Meyer.  In addition to continuing the section’s initiative to minimize patient radiation exposure from chest CT, Dr. Shipley will expand his contributions to resident training in cardiothoracic imaging and represent the section on the department Operations Committee. Dr. Shipley has assumed this role in the past and is uniquely qualified to resume a position of leadership in the section and the department.  He maintains a close relationship with pulmonologists and cardiothoracic surgeons through personal consultations and staffing of interdisciplinary conferences and is one of a diminishing number of certified B readers who can interpret chest radiographs for signs of pneumoconioses.

Dr. Gaskill-Shipley named Medical Director of Radiology Facilities Development

11-3-09

Dr. Mary Gaskill-Shipley is recognized locally and nationally for her accomplishments as a neuroradiologist.  She also serves important administrative roles in the department, including chairing the RPT Committee, and she served as Interim Chair of the department prior to the arrival of Dr. Collins.  As Interim Chair, she brought together the first group of radiologists to discuss renovation of the radiology MSB and UH space.  Her emphasis on broad involvement by stakeholders played a key role in the early success of the renovation project.  She will continue to play a major role in the department renovations as the Medical Director of Radiology Facilities Development.  Replacing Dr. Cris Meyer in this position, she will serve as the primary liaison between the Renovation Steering Committee and the radiology faculty.

Cris Meyer resigns to take on new role at University of Wisconsin

11-3-09

It is with great sadness but also joy that I announce the resignation of Dr. Cris Meyer, effective January 22, 2010.  Cris accepted a wonderful opportunity at the University of Wisconsin to be Vice Chair of Finance and Business Development.  Cris has spoken to me about his interest in pursuing an MBA and this new position will allow him to do that and apply what he learns to the benefit of his own professional development and the advancement of UW Radiology.  He is an extremely talented individual who will be missed by everyone whose life he has touched during his many years at UC.  Cris has been a chest colleague and friend of mine for many years.  He is nationally respected as both a pulmonary and cardiac radiologist, and locally recognized by referring pulmonologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, countless other referring physicians, as well as all the residents, medical students and fellows that he has trained.  Cris has served in many important administrative roles, most recently as the Medical Director of Radiology Facilities Development.  In this role, he has been invaluable as a liaison between the Renovation Steering Committee and the faculty, trainees, nurses, technologists, receptionists and others who work in the department.  It’s hard to lose someone with the work ethic and talent that Cris demonstrates, but wonderful to see him take on this well-deserved role.  I congratulate him on his new position and wish him all the best.
