
Dr. Thomas Tomsick is the Director of Neuroradiology and Interventional Neruroradiology in the Department of Radiology at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Tomsick attended medical school at St. Louis University and earned his MD in 1970. He completed his Radiology Residency and a Neuroradiology Fellowship in 1976 at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Tomsick was Co-Prinicipal Investigator of a research project entitled "Interventional Management of Stroke"
(IMS) which is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health
(NIH)
and is the Principal investigator of a clinical research project entitled, "IMS
II, sponsored by the NIH and EKOS Corp. Dr. Tomsick headed
"nBCA vs. PVA in embolization of Brain AVM", sponsored by Cordis Endovascular.
He is also site Principal Investigator for several nationwide studies of
devices/drugs used in the treatment of stroke. Dr. Tomsick will be
Interventional co-Principal Investigator of the IMS III Trial, recently
funded by the NIH, comparing full dose IV alteplase to combined IV-IA
alteplase & intervention in acute ischemic stroke.
Dr. Tomsick is past President of the American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (2000-01),
past Chair of the Stroke Task Force in the American Society of Neuroradiology
(1995-2000), member of the Task Force on Interventional Neuroradiology in
the American Stroke Association (division of the
American Heart Association) and
past member of the
American Stroke Association's Leadership Committee Stroke Council
(2000-2005).
