Head and Neck Cancers
At UC Health, our head and neck cancer team offers patient-centered care from skilled caregivers with the region’s most extensive experience with these diseases.
We have extensive experience in using radiation therapy as the sole treatment or in conjunction with surgical resection and/or systemic therapy for cancers of the head and neck. This therapy includes the use of 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, Tomotherapy, brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery.
We collaborate with UC head and neck surgeons as well as medical oncologists in optimizing the management of patients with head and neck cancer. We see patients in common and conduct a weekly multidisciplinary conference that involved our care team—radiation oncologists, head and neck surgeons, medical oncologists, neuro radiologists and surgical pathologists.
At those meetings we present and discuss complex cases of the head and neck and make treatment suggestions.
In addition, we collaborate among ourselves and with other physicians and scientists in research initiatives in an attempt to discover new approaches for head and neck cancer and to assess results of our treatment relative to what has worked well and how improvements can be made.
This tailored care approach aims to optimize each patient’s quality of life and provide the best opportunity for preservation of speech, taste and swallowing functions and overall physical appearance.
