PSTP: Students

Students

Ben Wilkins at Westminsters

PSTP Students often unwind together at various watering holes around Cincinnati. Pool at Westminsters is our unofficial sport.

It's not unusual to find a group of PSTP students playing soccer during the spring and summer.

So who are the students of the PSTP?

In short, we are a group of people who simply love what we do. Of course, what we do pretty much encompasses everything.

We are a closely knit group with diverse backgrounds that span the globe. Together we speak over five languages (English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Korean, German, Latin,...) and represent as many cultures and religions. Many have families of their own. We have people from both coasts and everywhere in between. We even have two Canadians in our midst.

We take up interests from sports to ballroom dancing. Our program consists of marathon runners, gardeners, artists, triathletes, web designers, former military contractors, ... But don't get us wrong - we're not always this intense - we occasionally love to just sit on a couch on a lazy Sunday afternoon and watch the Game of the Week or the Sunday Movie.

We also read avidly (check out our list of suggested books), serve the community (local and international), and are active players shaping the future of the program. We all have a personal and collective interest in the well-being of the program, and that makes it thrive.

Although it sounds like our program is mostly hard work, pursuing the career of a physician-scientist can be exciting and fun. Just ask any of the students in our program. If we weren't having fun, we wouldn't be as dedicated and enthusiastic as we are.

Student support during the program

Our numerous program-specific features provide a cohesive framework for a relatively small group of students in different curricular pathways, and give the M.D./Ph.D. Program and its students an identity within the Medical Center. These features have been particularly critical to the development of Cincinnati's M.D./Ph.D. Program, since the number of M.D. (~165) and Ph.D. (~100) students entering the College of Medicine each year far out-paces the number of M.D./Ph.D. students (6 or fewer).
