PSTP: Funding

Funding

The PSTP fully funds all students for all years of the program, so long as the student continues to make satisfactory progress. The program pays the full cost of tuition and fees; it also provides health insurance and a stipend which has steadily increased with the cost of living. The current stipend level 2006-2007 is $20,500 (at least $22,000 post qualifying examination) and $24,000 per annum with receipt of an extramural fellowship.  The sources of funding include NIH training grants, College of Medicine funds, graduate student assistantships, and private donations to our endowment.

This level of support coupled with the relatively low cost of living in Cincinnati allows our program to provide highly competitive compensation compared to other fully funded MD/PhD programs.

PSTP Funding Details

The Physician Scientist Training Program offers all incoming students the same funding package. Stipends are often adjusted yearly with the cost of living. These stipend increases are applied to all current students, whether they are in their first or fifth year in the program.

Students who apply for and receive outside awards (such as individual NIH or AHA grants, etc.) usually receive  a higher stipend ($24,000 during 2006-2007).
