PSTP: Applying for Admission

Applying for Admission

  1. AMCAS Application
  2. Upon receipt of AMCAS Application - UC Online Application
  3. The interview process
  4. Perspectives from past interviewees

We appreciate your interest in our program. If you are planning to pursue a combined M.D./Ph.D. career, we hope that you will apply to the Physician Scientist Training Program at the University of Cincinnati. This section of the web site contains information about the application process, and from here you may either request or download an application form.

Who should apply?

Students with a strong motivation to become physician-scientists are recruited from well-respected undergraduate colleges throughout the country. Women and members of ethnic groups traditionally underrepresented in the health professions are strongly encouraged to apply.

Requirements for admission

  • Applicants should be U.S. or Canadian citizens or U.S. permanent residents.
  • The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) is required.
  • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is recommended but is not required.
  • Applicants are expected to have completed a baccalaureate degree at an accredited college or university.
  • While there is no minimum grade point average (GPA) requirement, courses and achievement level must reflect a secure foundation in the sciences, including biology, physics, mathematics, and chemistry.
  • At least one year each of biology, physics, and calculus are required.

Application deadlines

Applications are due by November 15 for admission the following summer or fall quarter.

The interview process

The process for interviewing applicants was changed in 1997. We believe the new interview format allows more interaction between interviewees and members (students and faculty) of the PSTP. These changes ultimately benefit both parties: interviewees learn more about the PSTP, and the PSTP learns more about the interviewees. A sample schedule of an interview weekend is available to give prospective students a general idea of what to expect during their visit to U.C.

Perspectives from past interviewees

Since the interview format was recently changed, we have included some candid perspectives from the first students to go through the new process.
