July 1, 2009—Arshani Wansapura
was today awarded a predoctoral fellowship from the American Heart Association—Great
Rivers Affiliate to study the role of alpha Na,K-ATPase isoforms in mediating
cardiac hypertrophy in response to cardiotonic steroids. The two-year award totals
$46,000.
Arshani joined the PhD Program in Systems Biology
& Physiology in 2006 and has been working in the laboratory of John Lorenz,
PhD, associate professor of molecular and cellular physiology, since fall
2007. Arshani's most recent paper appears in the American Journal of Physiology: Heart and
Circulatory Physiology.
