Robert Banks Recognized For Teaching Excellence

May 14, 2009Robert Banks, PhD, UC professor of molecular and cellular physiology, was tonight presented with the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence. The award recognizes Banks' distinguished service as course director of medical physiology and for his many contributions to the medical education program.

Banks serves as program director of the master's in physiology program—a gap-year, special master's program (SMP) designed to help improve students' credentials for admission to US medical schools.

"Dr Banks is in many ways the face of physiology that medical students and doctors in Cincinnati and around the country not only recognize but praise," said Richard Paul, PhD, professor of molecular and cellular physiology. "His goals for all students are to see them succeed, and he will go the extra mile to do that." Banks is also an author of a physiology textbook (Sperelakis, Banks, Weinandt, Essentials of Physiology, 2006).

At tonight's Medical Education Recognition Dinner at The Phoenix, Cincinnati, Banks was presented with the Dean's Award in absentia—since he was taking a well-deserved vacation in London with his wife.
