Congress Approves Science Package in Supplemental Appropriations Bill
06/26/2008

The U.S. Senate today passed the FY 2008 Supplemental Appropriations Bill with a vote of 92 to 6. The bill, which will pay largely for ongoing military operations, also includes small increases for health and science agencies: $150 million for NIH, $62.5 million each for NSF, NASA, and DOE, and $150 million for the FDA. Although the amounts are small, by singling out these agencies, Congress sent a clear signal that health and science programs are a priority. The House passed the measure on June 19.
