Banking on Success in Physiology
11/30/2007
Robert Banks, PhD, professor of molecular and cellular physiology, talks about his career in physiology research and teaching in an interview appearing today in the Student Doctor Network, an online resource serving the needs of current and prospective medical students.
"A PhD in basic science provides an excellent avenue to both teach and do research," says Banks. "These are hugely rewarding activities and provide a life-long opportunity to interact with bright, young students and participate in scientific 'discovery'. What could be more satisfying?"
Banks' commitment to physiology teaching is clear: he is the course director of medical physiology at UC's college of medicine, and program director of the master's in physiology program Ñ a gap-year, special master's program (SMP) designed to help improve students' credentials for admission to US medical schools.
Banks is also an author of a physiology textbook (Sperelakis, Banks, Weinandt, Essentials of Physiology, 2006).
