Banking on Success in Physiology
11/15/2007

For the second year in a row, the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index has ranked UC among the top 10 institutions in physiology. The 2007 index compiles institutional rankings on 375 universities that offer PhD programs. The rankings [see rankings in physiology] appear in today's edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education.

"This recognition really helps energize our program," said Marshall Montrose, PhD, professor and chair of molecular and cellular physiology. "Including broad opportunities for mentorship and a systems biology emphasis are things that we know will be important for our applicants, and this recognition puts us on the national billboard."

"For a relatively new program, we were very pleased with our ranking Ñ and especially maintaining our ranking, whereas a number of the previous top 10 dropped out of the top ranks for 2007," said Richard Paul, PhD, director of UC's PhD program in systems biology and physiology. "This is in large part due to the vision of Nelson Horseman, PhD, who directed the program from its inception in 2005 until 2007, and the support from our department chairman."

UC's PhD program in systems biology and physiology comprises over 60 faculty within UC's college of medicine and Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
