These practice guidelines represent the result of group consensus of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine. The protocols may be used by other providers or practitioners as determined useful and/or needed for the care of patients within the following framework:

  • Our practice guidelines are the standard method of practice for our teaching and faculty service OB patients. Deviation from guidelines may sometimes be necessary for best medical practice in the care of a particular patient. The use of a practice guideline for patient management is not a replacement for good medical judgment. All possible scenarios, issues and situations cannot be anticipated or addressed in a practice guideline or protocol. However, UC OBGYN patients managed outside of practice guidelines must have rationale for any deviation clearly determined and delineated by the provider management team caring for an applicable patient.

  • Outside providers are welcome to use our guidelines. However, use of these guidelines must be considered in the context of available facilities, healthcare resources, provider experience and training, and individual needs of a patient. In publishing these guidelines, no claims or warranties are made regarding accuracy, applicability, suitability of use for other OB physicians or care providers.

  • Use of any medication or therapy requires familiarity regarding, risks, benefits, alternatives, dosage and potential side effects/risks of such treatments. No claim or warranty is made regarding outcome or results. Some recommended treatments may not be FDA approved as specifically indicated therapy - always reference appropriate consultants or resources before applying any treatment to a patient.

  • Please give us feedback regarding our practice guidelines - we are always trying to improve them so we may do the best job we can in treating our patients.

  • We reserve all rights regarding external publication of our protocols or guidelines, except the case-by-case direct care of patients, please contact our office for permission prior to publishing or otherwise utilizing our protocols.
