Brisben to be Honored at Benefactor Awards Dinner April 18

Patty Brisben, founder and chief executive officer of Pure Romance and founder of the Patty Brisben Foundation, is being recognized as a Life Founder for her contributions to the university at the Benefactor Award Celebration, being held Thursday, April 18, at the Kingsgate Marriott. The Benefactor Award Celebration is an annual event in April which recognizes donors who have reached milestones for cumulative/lifetime philanthropic support to UC of $100,000 or more. Through her company and foundation, Brisben has supported numerous initiatives around UC, including the UC Cancer Center, the Epilepsy Center, the Carl H. Lindner College of Business and UC Clermont College. In addition, two generous grants from Patty's Foundation were provided to the College of Medicine, both of which have supported research efforts of Michael Thomas, MD, director of the UC Reproductive, Endocrinology and Infertility program.

Experts from across Greater Cincinnati will discuss the growing problem of infant mortality at a multidisciplinary Infant Mortality Panel held from noon to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in Kresge Auditorium.

Cincinnati Among Sites for Study of Antiepileptic Drugs in Pregnancy

The University of Cincinnati will participate in a multicenter, $8.9 million study designed to assess the safety of newer antiepileptic drugs used in pregnancy, both for the mother and the child.

Albert Sabin, MD, Among 2012 Class of 'Great Ohioans'

Albert Sabin, MD, former distinguished service professor of pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine and researcher at Children's Hospital (today known as Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center), was named as a Great Ohioan for his pioneering work in developing the oral, live polio vaccine.

Nearly 30 UC College of Medicine students shaved their heads in support of cancer research during the annual St. Baldrick's Day event, held March 29 at O'Bryon's Irish Pub in O'Bryonville.
