The Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology is composed of 6 full-time M.D. faculty. The diverse background, training, and interests of each member of the faculty set the framework for a broad range of patient care, education, and research activities. It is the academic environment of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine that allows these interests to be fully explored. The Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology is dedicated to excellence in the arenas of patient care, education, and research.

Patient Care

The Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology provides patient care in a wide variety of clinical settings. Division members strive to meet the needs of all women in the Greater Cincinnati area by understanding the uniqueness of their age, socioeconomic status, religious beliefs and ethnicity. The Division sees patients in the Medical Arts Building, The University Hospital and The Veteran's Administration Hospital. Division members also provide care at the following Cincinnati Health Department clinics: Braxton F. Cann Memorial Medical Center, East End Health Center, Elm Street Health Center, Lincoln Heights Health Center, Mount Auburn Health Center, Mt. Healthy Family Practice, Walnut Hills/Evanston Health Center, West End Health Center and Adams County Clinic. The Division offers a full range of patient care services at these clinical sites including care for normal and high risk pregnancies, the full spectrum of gynecologic care, evaluation and treatment of cervical dysplasia, evaluation and management of all gynecologic problems including contraceptive counseling, and menopause.

Education

The Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology is dedicated to the education of the medical student and resident physicians in the art and science of General Obstetrics and Gynecology. This process involves excellence in patient care, dedication to medicine, personal integrity, and professional conduct. The division is honored and proud to have Dr. Clarence McLain as a member of the faculty. His contribution to medical student education is nationally recognized and he has been a tremendous asset to the many students who have been privileged to be under his tenure. The details of medical student education supervised by Dr. McLain who has been joined by Dr. Thomas deHoop are completely outlined in the area of medical student education on this site.

Dr. Arthur Ollendorff is the Associate Resident Director at The University Hospital and the details of the resident education program are listed in a separate section on this site. The Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology supervises the resident physicians and medical students while caring for patients on the benign gynecology service, in the pre-operative gynecology clinic, in the continuity of care clinic (COC), in the emergency department, with consultations on patient care floors, and in the labor and delivery unit.

The Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology provides resident and medical students education through of variety of didactic sessions. These sessions include a monthly journal club with emphasis on the education of the resident in evidence-based medicine, an evidence based medicine lecture series, a core lecture series in benign obstetrics and gynecology, the morbidity and mortality conference, resident case presentation conferences, and a variety of small group discussions involving medical students and resident physicians.
