The UC Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology exists to provide education and training for future and current obstetrician and gynecologists, produce research that advances the knowledge and practice of obstetrics & gynecology and practice state-of-the-art clinical care for women of all ages, social and economic backgrounds.

Our goal is to be a source of excellence and a reference for the standard of care for women’s health for the community. Our expectation is excellence with ethical conduct.

As the academic standard, the department is committed to providing and promoting the most up-to-date, sophisticated care for women. To meet these expectations, the department has developed into eight academic divisions:

Each of these divisions provides a high level of focused expertise available to our community while participating in education, research and patient care. This department is one of a handful in the United States that contains all of these divisions and employs a diverse, full-time faculty team that work together in a single, coordinated physician group.

The department is a resource for women and their families locally, nationally and internationally.  We have a number of unique, clinical specialty programs that combine sub-specialty physician expertise with specialized support teams to care for specific and often rare medical problems.

The Diabetes and Pregnancy Program is an example that combines maternal fetal medicine physician expertise with a team consisting of an advanced practice diabetes nurse specialist, a certified diabetes educator nurse, a certified diabetes educator dietician and a perinatal nurse to focus solely on managing diabetic pregnancies.

The Fetal Care Program combines maternal-fetal medicine physician expertise with surgical and medical specialists from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center This link opens in a new window. and a group of specialty nurses to care for fetuses with congenital anomalies, genetic defects and inherited diseases prior to and after birth.

Gynecologic Oncology treats reproductive tract cancers with advanced robotic surgery and multi-disciplinary chemotherapy and radiation therapy programs.

The Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Group manages complicated fertility issues with team of sub-specialty physicians, specialty nurses and a dedicated laboratory facility. These programs and many others exist within a single, coordinated physician group with the capability for seamless patient referral and coordinated management.

The department’s greatest impact on the community is through the students, residents and fellows who we train to become care providers for women throughout the region and the nation.

The OB/GYN residency program graduates seven new OB/GYN physicians each year, many of whom have gone into practice in the Greater Cincinnati region.

The department has four sub-specialty training programs for fellows in Maternal-Fetal MedicineReproductive Endocrinology & Infertility and Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology. These fellowship programs graduate, on average, four to five sub-specialists each year.

Many graduates have remained in practice in the region and many will go on to be leaders in their fields. All of this expertise and the ability to pass it on to young physicians exists in a single, coordinated physician group.
