Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

The department is organized into the Divisions of General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and Gynecologic Oncology.
The faculty is engaged actively in patient care, education and research. Patient care is provided at the following locations: Medical Arts Building, the University Hospital Ambulatory Outpatient Clinic, the University Hospital Perinatal Center, the University Hospital Obstetrical Special Care Unit, the Christ Hospital, St. Luke East and West Hospitals, the Veterans Affairs Hospital, Mt. Airy/Franciscan Hospital, Adams County Hospital and eight City of Cincinnati health centers. The faculty is responsible for training medical students, residents in obstetrics and gynecology and subspecialty fellows in both maternal-fetal medicine and reproductive endocrinology and infertility. The Department has active research programs in both basic reproductive biology and clinical reproductive medicine.
The strengths of the Department are a strong presence in the community at multiple clinical sites, dedicated faculty involved in teaching, research, and clinical service, and experienced senior research faculty with demonstrated skills in securing NIH research funding. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is one of 40 sites nationwide of the NIH-sponsored Women's Health Initiative. The University of Cincinnati Center works with approximately 3,500 post-menopausal women in clinical trial activities including studying nutrition, hormone replacement therapy and other issues related to women's health. The University of Cincinnati is one of the sites of the NIH-sponsored Women's Reproductive Health Research Scholars (WRHRS) Program. The goal of this training program is to provide clinical obstetrician-gynecologists with three to five years of research experience to prepare them for independent careers in academic medicine.
