Research has shown that nutrition is a modifiable risk factor for major
chronic diseases, thus elevating its importance as an integral component
of treatment modalities. The integration of nutrition into the curricula
of medical schools has increased nationwide in an effort to prepare practitioners
who effectively incorporate nutrition assessment, nutrition education, and
medical nutrition therapy into comprehensive treatment plans. At the University
of Cincinnati College of Medicine, nutrition is integrated throughout the
curriculum.
Medical Center faculty, staff, and students may click on the Handbook
of Medical Nutrition therapy to view and download a comprehensive handbook
that includes information on nutrition assessment, nutrient requirements,
modified diets, enteral and parenteral nutrition, medical nutrition therapy
for specific diseases, and pediatric nutrition.
