UC Heart & Vascular Center provides continuing medical education for health care providers. We also offer one of the only training programs in the region for future cardiologists, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons. We're the doctors of today, training the doctors of tomorrow.
UC Heart & Vascular Center doctors are also very active in the community. They regularly schedule patient education programs at schools, companies and community organizations. Members of our team also serve on the advisory boards and are active volunteers for the American Heart Association and Executive Council of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology among others.
FOR PHYSICIANS:
Cardiology Fellowship Training Program
The cardiovascular training program is designed to develop consultant cardiologists for careers in academic medicine. Clinical training provides a broad exposure to acute and chronic cardiovascular diseases with emphasis on accurate clinical diagnosis, appropriate ordering and interpretation of diagnostic testing, and the integration of data into a well-communicated consultation with sensitivity to the unique features of the individual patient. We also provide extensive training in bedside diagnosis and invasive and noninvasive techniques. Training includes two years of clinical rotations. A third year is individualized to prepare the trainee in research and/or a specialized area of technology. Additional training is available for selected applicants for advanced training in basic research or for advanced clinical training in catheterization laboratory-based interventions, or heart failure - transplantation.

Cardiology Fellowship
Vascular Fellowship Program
The University of Cincinnati was one of the first programs in the country approved for a two-year clinical Vascular Surgery fellowship. Full accreditation was granted in 1999 for a one-year clinical fellowship. Then, in April of 2001, the Vascular Surgery fellowship was granted permission from the RRC to become one of twelve programs in the country for a two-year, fully accredited clinical fellowship. The University of Cincinnati's Vascular Surgery fellowship is led by Amy B. Reed, M.D. In addition to a full standard operative caseload, all fellows are scheduled to perform more than 400 endovascular procedures in order to meet all credentialing standards for endovascular privileging. This fellowship offers its fellows a rare opportunity to become skilled in both standard open surgical procedures and catheter-directed therapy for the treatment of vascular disease.

Cardiothoracic Residency Program
The thoracic surgery residency training program provides three continuous years of clinical training in cardiothoracic surgery. One resident starts each year. Residents rotate on adult cardiac surgery at the University Hospital, on general thoracic surgery at the University Hospital and the Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and on pediatric cardiac surgery at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. There are adequate opportunities for evaluation of patients in the outpatient clinic setting each week. In addition, patients are discussed at preoperative planning conferences.
