GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS, P&G AND NIOSH FELLOWSHIPS

For full time Ph.D. students, graduate assistantships are available at $16,000/year along with tuition remission. Expectations are that students will, over the period of the assistantship, provide approximately 20 hours of service weekly, which is also an integral part of the learning experience. The assistantships, whether at U.C. or elsewhere (P&G, NIOSH, CBS), provide the students opportunity to learn state-of-the-art epidemiology and/or biostatistics and is extremely beneficial for completion of the academic program. These assistantships provide the opportunity to apply classroom learning to ongoing research projects. These assistantships are provided by either the Department (1st year), grants or external sources.

Procter and Gamble and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) also provide fellowships for primarily Ph.D. students Students receive "on-the-job" learning experience and dissertation projects from these assignments.

enter For Biostatistical Services

The newly formed Center for Biostatistical Services is a Medical Center-wide unit, created as a Research Core facility in affiliation with the Institute for Data Sciences at the University of Cincinnati. This core facility began operation in September 1998 and is available for biostatistical consulting to all full-time faculty in the U.C. Medical Center. Students acquire "real world" experience of biostatistical consultations by participating in Center activities. Division faculty member Rakesh Shukla, Ph.D., is Director. Several Ph.D. and Master level statisticians including two,( Linda Levin, Ph.D. and Mario Medvedovic, Ph.D. from our Division) currently participate in the Center activities.
