The Dermatology Phototherapy Unit provides ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B radiation for the treatment of inflammatory, pigmentary and malignant skin diseases. Ultraviolet radiation units available include full body and hand and foot Ultraviolet B (UVB) units, a full body narrow band UVB unit, and full body and hand and foot ultraviolet A (UVA) units. For PUVA therapy, the Ultraviolet A radiation is administered with topical or oral psoralen medication (PUVA = psoralen + UVA).
Skin diseases frequently treated with phototherapy include psoriasis, lichen planus, pityriasis rosea, vitiligo, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, polymorphous light eruption and others. Patients treated in the Phototherapy Unit must be followed by a UDC physician.
