Multi-disciplinary Care at URO

Multi-disciplinary Care

The Division of Radiation Oncology is committed to the philosophy of multi-disciplinary care for cancer patients. Treatment of cancer is complex and requires the input of many healthcare specialists with expertise in radiotherapy, surgery, chemotherapy, tumor imaging, pathology, and supportive care. Communication and treatment planning are most effective when all of these specialists can be brought together with the patient in one place. Each then shares their particular expertise with the others for the benefit of the patient.

Multidisciplinary clinics typically begin with a patient care conference attended by the specialists where data on the patients to be seen that day are reviewed, and plans are discussed. During the clinic that follows, patients are examined by one or more of the specialists, depending upon their needs. If new developments or changes are seen , these are discussed with all of the specialists in attendence, and changes in the plan of therapy can be made immediately.

Our physicians currently participate in the following multi-disciplinary clinics at the Barrett Cancer Center and Children's Hospital Medical Center:

  • Adult Neuro-oncology (brain tumors)
  • Pediatric Neuro-oncology
  • Lung Cancer and Thoracic Oncology
  • Head and Neck Cancer
  • Cutaneous Lymphomas (mycosis fungoides)
