About the Division of Radiation Oncology
The Division of Radiation Oncology was established in 1961. Its missions are to provide state-of-the-art radiation oncology care to the patients it serves, provide education in the field of radiation oncology to a broad spectrum of health care professionals and the public, and to contribute to the goal of curing cancer through clinical and basic science research.
The University Hospital's Barrett Cancer Center serves as our primary practice site as well as housing our academic offices. In partnership with The University Hospital and The Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati, we have developed a high technology Radiation Therapy program with a number of unique services including stereotactic radiosurgery, three-dimensional treatment planning,
a broad spectrum of brachytherapy techniques, and a High Precision Radiotherapy Program. This
program provides extra-cranial stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic radiotherapy and intensity modulation to the capabilities in Radiation Oncology. This
program allows us to remain on the cutting edge of technology in the field. A complete description of these and other services is contained in the Treatment Programs page. The hospital also provides a complete technical staff including medical physicists, and
registered and licensed radiation therapists.
The Division of Radiation Oncology supports a number of activities related to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The group provides numerous Educational Opportunities including a residency training program in radiation oncology and medical student, medical physicist and therapist teaching. Research is also a major focus of the group, and
the faculty participate in numerous local, national and international research programs.
