Universal Precautions
  • The lab is set up to encourage universal precautions with all levels of skill training
  • Surgical scrub brushes, gowns, gloves and eye protection are provided
  • General non-sterile gloves are also provided
Childbirth Models

Not only are simulators available in the lab, but models of anatomical sites and/or physiological function are also available for instruction.

SIM MAN Human Patient Simulator

The SimMan is designed for use as a tool for teaching psychomotor skills as well as cognitive and critical thinking pathways. Features include:

  • ACLS training scenarios.
  • ECG training and pattern recognition.
  • Physical assessment and interventions for conscious and unconscious patients.
  • Physical assessment and interventions for patients with a difficult airway.
  • Physical assessment and interventions for patients suffering from a variety of cardiac conditions.
  • Physical assessment and interventions for patients suffering from a variety of respiratory conditions.
  • Obtaining and reporting rate and quality of the patients pulse and respirations as well as obtaining both palpated and auscultated blood pressure.
  • CPR evaluations.
  • Pneumothorax decompression sites.
  • Fiber optic intubation.
  • General intubation using a variety of modalities.
  • Prep of the patient for surgery including NG tube placement, ET tube placement and Foley catheter placement

Scenarios can be created to teach critical thinking skills. The scenario builder program is Windows based and has a short learning curve. The instructor can write individualized cases with pre-programmed or newly created physiological trends to augment a presentation.

From basic skills training or to elaborate case scenarios, the SimMan is a valuable addition to the Clinical Skills Laboratory. SimMan Orientation (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader)
