Education

The UC Center for Informatics faculty participate in several biomedical and health informatics educational programs around the UC Academic Health Center.


  • PhD in Biomedical Informatics

    The UC Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Informatics program is an important cornerstone for a program of academic excellence in informatics at UC and its affiliate hospitals. Leveraging partnerships between the UC College of Medicine, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and the UC College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the program provides an in-depth knowledge of key analytical concepts that underlie applications of informatics and biomedical data science, ranging from the study of molecules to individuals and populations.

    Students will also learn how to apply these conceptual frameworks while engaging in hands-on opportunities to implement, analyze, and improve informatics systems in a real-world, premier health care research and delivery setting.

    Successful applicants to the program typically have a strong quantitative and/or computational background and a keen interest in biomedical informatics or a related discipline. Apply now to be part of this new, exciting chapter and to become a leader in biomedical informatics research.

    Students with a particular interest at the intersection of biomedical informatics and clinical/translational research can select to enter the Clinical and Translational Research Informatics (CTRI) track.

    Students enrolled in the CTRI track, will take a series of courses focused on the domain, participate in a regular seminar series, and engage in research experiences in one of our real-world laboratories under the supervision of an informatics faculty mentor. Students in the CTRI track are expected to present the findings of their research in one or more peer-reviewed venues.

  • Clinical and Translational Research Informatics Track, Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Research

    The UC Department of Environmental Health in partnership with the Center for Clinical & Translational Science & Training hosts the Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Research, the goal of which is to provide a strong educational experience for future clinical researchers. Candidates include those with prior training in any health profession (e.g. medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, etc).

    Students with a particular interest at the intersection of biomedical informatics and clinical/translational research can select to enter the Clinical and Translational Research Informatics (CTRI) track.

  • Bioinformatics Graduate Training

    Available through the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, the Bioinformatics Graduate Program enables students to interact closely with nationally recognized scientists in the Division of Biomedical Informatics at Cincinnati Children's Medical Center and UC's Department of Environmental Health.

    Through course work and collaboration with our faculty, students develop expertise in the relevant domains of mathematics, statistics, computational science, basic biology, molecular biology, and biomedicine.

  • Master of Health Informatics Program - College of Allied Health Sciences

    BMI assists with the Master of Health Informatics program housed in the College of Allied Health Sciences and offered in partnership with the  Lindner College of Business Information Systems and Analytics department.  The program features an applicable curriculum designed to ensure real-world relevance. Courses were carefully designed to provide a balance of healthcare, IT/IS, health data analytics and leadership development. This advanced health informatics program consists of 12 three-credit courses for a total of 36 credit hours. The program is typically competed in as few as 24 months and attracts students from a wide range of healthcare and IT backgrounds.
