About the Institute
The UC Cancer Institute is a partnership of the UC College of Medicine and UC Health that serves as an umbrella entity for bringing together shared missions of research, patient care and education.
Led by George Atweh, MD, who also serves a hematology oncology division chief, the institute encompasses all cancer care programs; basic, clinical and translational cancer research efforts; and cancer education programs.
The institute focuses on disease-based centers of excellence that bring together core teams of clinicians, clinician-scientists and basic researchers who work collaboratively to advance cancer care.
Frank Smith, MD, serves as UC Cancer Institute clinical director and Vijaya Gandhi, PhD, MBA, is the associate director for strategic planning and administration.
Associate directors include: (clinical research) Syed Ahmad, MD; (shared resources, education) Ken Greis, PhD; (population sciences) Shuk-mei Ho, PhD; (basic research) Jerry Lingrel, PhD; (translational research) John Morris, MD; and (outreach) William Barrett, MD.
