Reunion 2008: Reflecting the Past

Many enjoyable memories remain for those who attended Reunion 2008. Some celebrated their fifth year anniversary while others were recognized for 25 and 50 years of devoted medical service. It was a time of renewing old friendships, sharing warmhearted memories and making new ones.

Friday’s festivities started with a continental breakfast, followed by an entertaining and informative update by Dean David Stern. Alumni were led on tours by current medical students to see the exciting transformation of areas within the College as well as their familiar old stomping grounds. Alumni then attended an enticing lunch buffet in the Caminetto Restaurant while mingling with members of other classes and medical students.
This year’s Scientific Session, “Cardiology Update”, was hosted by Neal Weintraub, MD.  Dr. Weintraub and staff did a wonderful job informing us about the innovative procedures in the cardiovascular area. Scientific Sessions are imperative to showcase the crucial work of UC medical staff and also provide CME credit to our alumni.  Friday evening, alumni celebrated at individual parties hosted by local class representatives. This private gathering of each class allowed its members to enjoy each other and catch up on old times.
Early Saturday morning alumni enjoyed a delectable breakfast buffet before embarking on a bus tour that pointed-out the many changes that have taken place on campus. The tour was completed with a guided walking tour of the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Following the tour, alumni and friends attended an invigorating lecture presented by Jay Johanningman, MD. Dr. Johanningman spoke about “How Cincinnati Cares for the Wounded Soldier”. Many attendees really enjoyed how he was very passionate about caring for our injured servicemen. Afterwards, alumni were treated to a filling luncheon of Cincinnati’s most famous favorites-sizzling Skyline Chili and chilly Graeter's ice cream!
Some say that the past is a reflection of the future. Reunion 2008 was proof of this proverb as we celebrated in the Hall of Mirrors at the Hilton Netherland Plaza. Some may remember that this venue was used years ago to host the all-class banquet. The Golden Class of 1958 and the Silver Class of 1983 were especially honored. Although all of our alumni are notable, the Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented to Ira A. Abrahamson, MD ’48, Arthur K. Asbury, MD, FRCP ’58, and Thomas D. Geracioti, Jr., MD ’83. Graduating senior, Katelyn Leopold, was honored with the Medical Alumni Association Student Award for her substantial role within the class of 2008.

After the award presentations, attendees listened and danced to the jammin’ sounds of “Airwave”!

Reunion 2008 was a total victory and we look forward to Reunion 2009!!
