Reunion 2006 a Huge Success

Many happy memories remain for those who attended Reunion 2006. It was a time of renewing old friendships, sharing fond memories and making some new ones. Alumni dating from the class of 1941 to the class of 2006 attended the variety of festivities.
Due to construction, all events this year were held at the Marriott Kingsgate Conference Center located on the Medical Center Campus. Friday began with a continental breakfast, followed by an update on the exciting renovation of the Medical Sciences Building (MSB) and the construction of the Center for Academic Research Excellence/Crawley Building. Alumni were then led on tours of the College and the Medical Center by first-year students. Alumni and guests then attended a delicious lunch buffet in the Caminetto Restaurant.
Early Saturday morning at the Kingsgate Conference Center alumni enjoyed a continental breakfast before embarking on a bus tour--highlighting the many changes that have taken place on east and west campuses. The tour was completed with a guided walking tour of the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Following the tour, alumni and friends attended a financial and estate planning seminar. Afterwards, alumni were treated to a Cincinnati-style luncheon of Skyline Chili and Graeter's ice cream.
Reunion weekend came to a close with a festive all-class banquet and dance Saturday evening at the Marriott Kingsgate Conference Center. Representing the earliest graduating class at the reunion was E. Vernon Smith, Class of 1941. The Golden Anniversary Class of 1956 and the Silver Anniversary Class of 1981 were specially honored. Dr. John Schlueter, president of the 1956 class, gave a moving tribute to his class sharing some special memories from the podium. The Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented to Demetrios A. Julius '71, Lawrence M. Opas '71 and Marvin J. Slepian '81. Graduating senior, Tyson Cook, received the Medical Alumni Association Student Award and in his acceptance speech urged the alumni to support scholarships for medical students. The program was brought to a close as John Keefe '75 was recognized for his outstanding service and leadership during his 2004-06 term as President of the Medical Alumni Association. Arden Wander '67 was installed as the new President for the 2006-08 term.
