Project Overview
The Medical Sciences Building (MSB) rehabilitation project is a four-phase expansion and renovation of teaching and research space on the University of Cincinnati’s medical campus. Phase I of the project included construction of the Center for Academic and Research Excellence (CARE)/Crawley Building, which is connected to the MSB via a glass atrium. The CARE/Crawley Building opened in August 2008.
The current focus is to rehabilitate the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems of the MSB, which opened in 1974. In addition, a fire suppression system will be added, the central restrooms will be brought up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards, fume hoods will be replaced and improvements made to the fume hood exhaust system.
The remaining phases are:
- Phase II, which began in March 2010 and was completed in September 2011. It involved work on the northeast quadrant of floors G through 6 and the north half of the seventh floor (facing Albert Sabin Way).
- Phase III involves the northwest quadrant of floors 1 through 6 and the north half of the seventh floor. Phase III work began in January 2012 and was completed Nov. 30, 2012, with move-in December 2012-May 2013.
- Phase IV involves the entire south half of the building and will also involve the conversion of the southeast quadrant of the MSB into office space. Work is scheduled for June 1, 2013, through Dec. 30, 2014, with move-in beginning in January 2015.
Coordinating Committee
The charge of the MSB Rehabilitation Project Coordinating Committee is to serve the occupants of the MSB during the rehabilitation project by facilitating communication with the project team and ensuring that both the building occupants and the project team benefit from superior communications services for the duration of the project.
