Ruth Wise received her BSN in 1971 and her MSN in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing in 1979 from Indiana University. During her 25-year career as a clinical nurse specialist, she functioned as a clinician, therapist, educator, consultant, and researcher in a variety of settings. She has expertise in psychosocial, substance abuse, and clinical quality improvement research. Seeking to expand her horizons, Ms. Wise is currently working on an MDes degree in graphic design at UC's prestigious College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP). Through this program, she has developed additional expertise in health-related information design and medical informatics. Combining her background and experience in the fields of health care and graphic design provides her with a unique perspective and approach to the research process.
Ruth Wise works as a Research Assistant in the Center for Clinical Effectiveness, Division of General Internal Medicine. Her current research areas include decision analysis, decision support tools, and shared decision-making. She is also interested in the design and evaluation of population-specific websites. Currently, Ms Wise is the project coordinator for a study evaluating shared decision-making patient aids and their use among populations with low health literacy. She is also the data manager on a project evaluating the cardiovascular outcomes associated with bariatric surgery for morbid obesity.
