Karthik earned a B.Sc. in statistics from Loyola College, Chennai, INDIA in 1999 followed by a M.S. in applied statistics with an operations research cognate from Bowling Green State University, Ohio in 2003. His successful stints as a MathLab tutor and teaching assistant during his graduate school landed him an Instructor position in the College of Business Administration at Bowling Green State University, where he taught undergraduate statistics and operations research courses. Following this he served as a biostatistician at the Center for Statistical Sciences at Brown University, Rhode Island, where he gained experience in the collection, management, reporting and statistical analysis of data from clinical trials.

Karthik joined the Institute for the Study of Health in 2006 as a research associate (data analyst). He is familiar with statistical packages like SAS and SPSS and operations research tools like Excel Solver.
